U18s: Everton 2 United 0 | Quote: | United Under-18s' five-match unbeaten run came to an end against joint league leaders Everton.
Paul McGuinness' young side started the match well and were unlucky not to be leading at the break. Everton goalkeeper Lars Stubhaug was called into action on several occasions to deny the Reds the opening goal.
However in the second half the Toffees came out strongest and took the lead after 65 minutes.
McCarten's well-struck 25-yard free-kick broke the deadlock, and just minutes later Everton added a second.
Jack Rodwell burst forward from defence before releasing Kieran Agard. The ex-Arsenal striker coolly finished to seal all three points.
United refused to give in, but Toffees goalkeeper Stubhaug again proved equal to everything United threw at the Everton goal.
